Based in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, Volz Engineering Limited specialise in CNC machining, milling and turning with modern Doosan machinery. Volz designs and manufactures process and automated machinery in-house and has a wealth of experience within the filter manufacturing industry.
The Challenge
Volz approached the team at NERIC for technical advice on how to automate their existing processes. Volz specifically were looking to add an on/off electric magnet capability so that their Doosan Industrial Robotics UK Cobot could pick up cast-iron manifold blocks, loading on and off a 3-Axis CNC Machining Centre. Automating this process would allow Volz’ engineers and a more capable machine to focus on more important and valuable workstreams for business growth.
The Solution
The expert team at NERIC investigated how Volz could tackle the implementation of automation into their existing processes. A high-level architecture of a potential solution was developed by the team, using
a cobot for the loading of raw material and unloading of finished parts, looking at all design, hardware
and firmware considerations, and de-risking any investment required. Once implemented, Volz would
increase their machining time and have the capacity for 24-hour production, resulting in increased
productivity within the business. Armed with confidence and guidance for implementation provided by the problem-solving skills of the NERIC Team, Volz successfully piloted the use of their cobot to manufacture components, increasing their outputs through automation.
“I would recommend working closely with NERIC as, for Volz Engineering, this has proved extremely beneficial for our production values and allows us to future-proof our business through the use of technology”
